何斯德 · 1861 – 1946 · British
Dixon Edward Hoste (July 23, 1861 – May 11, 1946) was a British missionary to China with the China Inland Mission and one of the Cambridge Seven.
In 1883 Hoste applied to join the China Inland Mission to go to China as a missionary. In 1885 he was sent to China and worked in Quwo County, Shanxi Province; the following year (1886) Hudson Taylor visited southern Shanxi and ordained Xi Shengmo (席胜魔) as pastor, and Hoste, at Stanley Smith's invitation, then moved to Hongtong to work alongside Xi. During the Boxer upheaval of 1900 Hudson Taylor appointed him Acting General Director of the China Inland Mission; when Taylor formally resigned in November 1902, Hoste became General Director, serving until 1935, a total of 33 years. After retiring he continued to live in China, and during the War of Resistance against Japan he was interned by the Japanese army. In 1945 he returned to Britain. He died in London on May 11, 1946.
