James 2:5 Has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?
In 1891, Geraldine from Melbourne arrived in Qinzhou, Gansu, and served there for thirty-nine years. The women and girls she ministered to were often overlooked in the society of that time, yet she declared what a joy it was to bring them the gospel. James reminds us that God has chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith. What human eyes perceive as 'poverty' is, in God's eyes, the very doorway to His grace. Today, am I also willing to reach out to those who are overlooked and see the abundance God wishes to pour into their lives?
Loving Heavenly Father, thank You that You do not look at outward appearance, status, or education, but choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith. I confess that I often think I have something to boast about, forgetting that I too am rich only by Your grace. Please grant me the vision and joy of Geraldine, that I may not look down on anyone, but gladly bring the gospel to the overlooked and forgotten around me. May they be enriched in faith through knowing You and inherit the kingdom You have promised. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
