2 Timothy 2:2 - and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
In 2 Timothy 2:2, we see four generations: Paul, Timothy, faithful men, and others. The gospel has never been passed down by a single individual, but entrusted from generation to generation. As David Yang noted, the church is both a seminary and a mission agency. Within the church, we equip one another—not merely imparting knowledge, but also displaying the lived experience of life; once equipped, we are released and sent out. Paul mentions 'faithful' before 'able to teach,' showing that God values faithfulness over mere capability. Am I currently entrusting what I have received to the next person?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for using many faithful servants to pass the gospel down to me through the generations. Make me a person of faithfulness—not seeking to appear capable before people, but striving to be faithful before You. Let what I have received not remain merely in my mind, but be lived out so that others may see. Open my eyes to see the person around me whom You want me to walk alongside and entrust; make me willing to pour out my life and to release them in sending. May our small group become a place that nurtures and sends out people. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
