— John Kenneth Mackenzie
To win the trust of these people, we must love them; and to love them, we must see them through the eyes of Christ—in every suffering body, we see a Savior who sacrificed himself for them.

— John Kenneth Mackenzie · Source: Medical Missionaries to China

📖 Scripture Reference

Matthew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were afflicted and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

💭 Reflection

True love and care begin with the "perspective" we use to see people. Dr. Magen saw not only bodies in need of healing amidst illness and suffering, but also souls loved by the precious blood of the Savior; just as Jesus "saw the crowds and had compassion on them." Often, we easily label those around us, or only see their troubles and weaknesses. Only by asking the Lord to grant us His vision can we transcend indifference and prejudice. When we transform empathy into real action, and with Christ's mercy condescend to those around us who are suffering, we can truly win their trust and allow God's love to flow naturally through our lives.

🙏 Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us first, even sending your only begotten Son to give his life for us. Lord, forgive me for judging people by their appearance and for lacking love and mercy. Grant me the eyes of Jesus Christ, so that I may not only see the needs and suffering of others, but also the immeasurable value of every life in Your eyes. Remove my indifference, and inspire me with Your love, so that I may be willing to listen, care, and give in my daily life. May I be a channel of Your grace and mercy, conveying Your true love and hope to those in need. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
