— John Chalmers
Counting the years is the business of the wise; but calculating worldly possessions is not as good as counting the blessings of the Heavenly Father; seeking worldly truth through calculation is not as good as seeking the salvation of the soul through calculation.

— John Chalmers · Source: Seeking Truth Through Numbers

📖 Scripture Reference

Psalm 90:12 Teach us how to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

💭 Reflection

We are often adept at calculating earthly gains and losses: how much wealth we've accumulated, how many schedules we've planned, yet we often neglect the countdown to the end of our lives. John and Moses both remind us that true wisdom lies not in being skilled at worldly calculations, but in knowing how to count the blessings of our Heavenly Father and the days of our lives. When we turn our gaze from fleeting material possessions to eternal salvation, our hearts are no longer bound by earthly anxieties, and we gain the peace and serenity that comes from God.

🙏 Prayer

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for the years of life and your boundless grace. Grant me a wise heart, teach me to count my days, and not waste my life on worldly calculations and fleeting pleasures. Lord, open my eyes, that I may always remember the salvation on the cross, and find peace in eternity. May everything I do today reflect your glory and love. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
