— Henrietta Shuck
Yet, if I know my own depraved heart, I feel willing, yea, anxious, if it be the will of Heaven, to live and die without ever again beholding the land of my nativity and the friends of my childhood. It is sufficient to know that I do it for Christ. To him can I go in every time of trouble, and from him do I expect to receive every good and perfect gift.

— Henrietta Shuck · Source: A Memoir of Mrs. Henrietta Shuck (ed. J. B. Jeter, 1846), letter to her father written at sea, Oct. 6

📖 Scripture Reference

Revelation 14:4 Wherever the Lamb goes, they follow him.

💭 Reflection

On her voyage to China, Henrietta Shuck wrote to her father that she was willing never again to see her native land: "It is sufficient to know that I do it for Christ." This is a benchmark for every follower. Following the Lamb (Revelation 14:4) means completely surrendering the sovereignty of one's life. In daily choices, do I pursue worldly wealth and prominence, or am I willing to be a humble yet faithful servant in His vineyard? True following is not about favorable or unfavorable circumstances, but about having the will to obey and follow the Lamb wherever he leads.

🙏 Prayer

Loving Heavenly Father, grant me the pure faith of Mrs. Henrietta Shuck. I do not seek earthly fame or wealth, but only that my life may be a true follower of the Lamb. Lord, wherever You lead me, whether on smooth or rugged paths, draw me firmly in Your love. Send me into Your vineyard, grant me a selfless and fervent heart, to be a useful vessel in the work You have entrusted to me. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
