Matthew 5:15-16 "Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
Salvation is not a privately held "treasure," but a "torch" that must be passed on. David Abeel reminds us that indifference often stems from spiritual blindness. When we settle comfortably under the "bushel" of our own ease, we fail to see the thirst of countless souls outside our door. We must reflect: have we let shame or busyness obscure the light of our lives? True disciples are not only recipients of grace but also practitioners of the mission. Only by placing the lamp on its stand to illuminate the darkness of others can we live up to the divine grace that has called us.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me out of darkness into the light. Heal my spiritual blindness, grant me a compassionate heart like David Abeel's, and let me see the needs of lost souls. Lord, forgive me for often hiding in my comfort zone, concealing the light of salvation beneath a bushel. Remove my hesitation, grant me courage and wisdom, so that I may not only receive grace but also become a beacon of truth. May my life illuminate those around me, guiding them to You. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
