Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
Giuseppe Castiglione's decades of quiet work at the imperial court reveal a kind of "missionary work in silence." We often admire those ministries that are loud and boisterous, yet easily underestimate the perseverance in mundane tasks. His life seems to tell us: profession is altar, lines are prayer. In the midst of mundane tasks and daily work, if we can pursue ultimate excellence while maintaining Christian character, this in itself is the most powerful testimony. Reflecting on how we are worn down by our daily work: are we willing to see these "non-spiritual" trivialities as sacred workshops for refining our lives and living out the Lord's name?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that through Giuseppe Castiglione's decades of quiet service at the imperial court I can see that faithfulness in an ordinary post is also an offering to You. Lord, forgive me for so often wanting to escape my ordinary place to pursue a showy kind of "greatness." Grant me patience and perseverance, that I may see Your presence even in the small tasks of daily work, and do each one as for You. May I not only praise Your name with my lips, but live out Your name in faithfulness in every little thing. In the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.
