— Francis Bacon
The first creature of God, in the works of the days, was the light of the sense; the last, was the light of reason; and his sabbath work ever since, is the illumination of his Spirit. First he breathed light, upon the face of the matter or chaos; then he breathed light, into the face of man; and still he breatheth and inspireth light, into the face of his chosen.

— Francis Bacon · Source: Essays, "Of Truth"

📖 Scripture Reference

2 Corinthians 4:18 For we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

💭 Reflection

In this age of information overload and rational pursuit, we are often limited by visible facts and logic, easily falling into confusion and helplessness. 2 Corinthians 4:18 reminds us to transcend what we see and look to the unseen, eternal spiritual truth. Francis Bacon, too, observed that God first gave man the light of reason and ever since has been illuminating His chosen by His Spirit; reason is God's gift, yet it needs the Spirit's light to know the truth. Only in this way can life find a solid foundation and eternal meaning.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, help me not to be bound by my current difficulties and doubts, but to look to your unchanging truth. May my reason humbly submit to your revelation, and trust in your word as the foundation of my life. Grant me faith to see heavenly hope and to hold fast to the eternal values you have given me. Enable me to stand firmly in your love and truth in these turbulent times, and to be your witness. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
