"Hunter Corbett believed that if Shantung and all China were to be Christianized, it must be the Chinese themselves who, as Spirit-filled agents of the Kingdom, would spread the message and win the people; after fifty-six years in China this conviction remained unshaken. At Chefoo he began training Chinese workers with his very first convert, and when hostile neighbors reduced his first school to a single pupil, he held on. All fourteen churches he organized in Shandong had Christian schools operated in connection with them."
