"Cheap grace is grace we give to ourselves; it is forgiveness without the requirement of repentance, baptism without church discipline, and communion without confession. It is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, and grace without the living, incarnate Christ."
— Dietrich Bonhoeffer

"Another thing, wherein gracious affections are distinguished from others, is, that they are attended with a change of nature. ... Such power as this is properly divine power, and is peculiar to the Spirit of the Lord: other power may make an alteration in men's present frames and feelings: but it is the power of a Creator only that can change the nature, or give a new nature."
— Jonathan Edwards

"Rudolf Lechler reached Hong Kong in March 1847 with Theodore Hamberg, the first two missionaries the Basel Mission sent to China. He began among the Teochew people, going inland three times between 1848 and 1852 and being forced out by official pressure each time; he then turned to the Hakka and translated the Gospels of Matthew and Luke into their dialect. In 1899, after a fifty-two-year career in China, he and his wife retired to Germany, where he died in 1908. His legacy was the Hakka Christian church."
